Quizás muchas de ustedes sepan de mis ganas de aprender a tejer medias, y los muchos (y frustrantes) intentos fallidos, pero ahora parece ser que lo estoy logrando. De a poco, con mucho que mejorar y mucho mas por aprender, pero también con mucho mas progreso!!
Hace unos días intenté nuevamente tejer una media, y aunque no es perfecta, lo he conseguido!!
Les cuento cómo, y les doy algunos tips para que ustedes también puedan hacerlo:
Las medias pueden dividirse en dos grandes grupos: las que se tejen empezando por la parte de los dedos, hacia arriba, hasta tejer el puño (esto puede ser arriba del tobillo, a media pierna, o bien debajo de la rodilla) y las que se tejen desde el puño hasta los dedos.
Las que yo tejí corresponden a este primer grupo, empecé a tejerlas por los dedos, por momentos utilicé 5 aguas de doble punta y por momentos cambié a circulares. Las medias son de una sola pieza, NO llevan costura y comienzan, como todo tejido, con el montaje de los puntos, para lo cual se utiliza mayormente el Judy-s magic cast on (Montado mágico de Judy). Esta técnica me resultó un poco difícil, no sólo en el montado de los puntos sino también tejer la primera vuelta, ya que los puntos estaban como «apretados». Antes de comenzar la segunda media, busqué mas info sobre este método, pretendía encontrar otro video con una explicación mas fácil y lo encontré!
El método no es el mismo, es mucho más fácil y se logra un resultado igual. Es el turkish cast on knitting (Montado de puntos al estilo turco) y lo explica Rebecca de manera simple y clara.
Si eres asidua tejedora de medias quizás conozcas ambos métodos y tengas tu favorito, o quizás no. Si quieres aprender a tejer medias, acepta mi recomendación y prueba el método de Rebecca en lugar del de Judy (o prueba ambos y después me cuentas que te parecen).
Otro punto difícil en cuanto a las medias es el talón, aquí hay muchos mas métodos posibles, casi todos se tejen con la técnica de vueltas acortadas (short rows es el término en inglés)… si, claro, hay distintas maneras de hacer las short rows. Entre las que yo conozco puedo mencionar «la común» en la que hay que envolver el punto (wrap and turn según las instrucciones en inglés), [me costó mucho, no me salió, me quedaban «agujeros»], la técnica japonesa (que sólo conozco de nombre y nunca intenté) y la German short rows (vueltas acortadas estilo alemán), que, utilizada para tejer el talón, también se conoce como «Boomerang». Esta última es la técnica que recomiendo, pero presten mucha atención ya que aquí no se envuelve el punto sino que se trabaja de una manera en la que parece que hay dos puntos (y muchas veces se hace referencia al punto doble o duplicado -double stitch en inglés) pero se trata de un solo punto, aunque visualmente parezcan dos.
Por último, pero no menos importante, recomiendo que tejan su primer par de medias con lana gruesa y en un tamaño grande, para aprender la técnica. También ayuda que tejan el talón el otro color, para visualizar mas fácilmente la zona en la que tejen las short rows.

Maybe you know how much I wanted to learn to knit socks, and how many times I tried and failed, but now seems to be that I am making some progress. Slowly, but finally making progress.
A couple of days ago I attempted to knit a sock again, and even when it is not perfect, I did it!!
I tell you how, and I give you some tips, so you can make it too:
Socks can be divided in two big groups: toe up and cuff down. The ones I knitted are toe up, I used 5 dpns, later I changed to circular needles. The socks are seamless and you begin by casting on stitches, one of the most populars cast on methods (for socks) is the Judy-s magic cast on . This technique was a bit difficult for me, not only the cast on but also the knitting of the first row. Before I started my second sock I did some research about this method, I wanted to find another video, something easier, and I found it!!
This technique is not exactly the same, it is much easier and you achieve the same result. It is the turkish cast on method and Rebecca explains it in a simple and clear way.
If you are a sock knitter maybe you know both methods and have a favorite, or maybe not. If you want to learn how to knit socks, listen to me and try Rebecca-s method (or try both to compare and then tell me what do you think).
Another difficult issue about knitting socks is the heel, there are also many ways to do it, mos of them are knitted using the short rows technique, and, of course! there are different short rows methods. I know the «common short row» (you have to wrap and turn the stitch, but I could not do it, was difficult and had some gaps , the japanese short rows (never tried them) and the german short rows version (also known as Boomerang heel). This one, the German short rows is the one I used and I recommend it, but pay attention, here you do not wrap and turn but you have to work in a way that seems that you have two stitches, but you only have one (and also in the patterns it is referred to the double stitch or duplicated stitch, even when you have only one stitch).
Last but not least I do recommend to knit your first pair of sock with thick /bulky yarn and in a big size, to learn the technique. It is also helpful to knit the heel with another colour, so you can easy visualize where you knit the short rows.
